Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Networks on iPad

"ipad wifi"You can use a Wi-Fi network to connect your iPad to the Internet so you can access your favorite websites, email, and some games, as well as many other things. If you are having problems connecting to a Wi-Fi network with your iPad, this blog post will help you resolve the most common Wi-Fi issues that people have.

Join the network

Verify that Wi-Fi is enabled and that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Tap Settings, and tap Wi-Fi.  If Wi-Fi is off, turn it on by tapping the on/off icon.

You should see available Wi-Fi networks under Choose a Network. Find and tap the Wi-Fi network that you want to join.

Verify password

Some Wi-Fi networks may require that you enter a password to join them. You will see a padlock if the Wi-Fi network you are trying to join requires a password. If you are receiving an error while trying to join a password protected Wi-Fi network make sure you are entering the password correctly. If you do not know what the password is, ask the Wi-Fi network administrator.

Check connection

Make sure the Wi-Fi signal strength in the status bar has bars. The more bars it has the stronger the signal is. For example, if you only have one bar the signal is very weak. Move closer to the Wi-Fi access point or router and see if you have more bars. Make sure nothing is interfering your signal such as microwave ovens or a concrete wall.

Use Safari to open a web page to check the connection. If you are using a Wi-Fi network, Safari may display a web page that asks you to sign in to use the service.

Check the Wi-Fi network

If you do have a strong signal on your Wi-Fi but are still having problems accessing the Internet, make sure the Wi-Fi network that you are using is working. Make sure that you are connecting to the correct Wi-Fi network. Check the cable connections to your router or Wi-Fi access point.

Reset network settings

Reset the network settings on your iPad by tapping Settings, tap General, tap Reset, and then tap Reset Network Settings. When your iPad restarts, try to find and join the Wi-Fi network again.

These are some of the most common reasons why you may not be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network on your iPad.
